music box
This collection is inspired on a music box and is shown with a special presentation in the ‘Koningszaal’ at ‘De Bazel’ building during the Prelude soiree. It represents a melancholic journey. For this presentation Gabriëls cooperates with Daan Colijn, an actor/student from the ‘Theater School’ in Amsterdam.
The nostalgic feeling you get when listening to a music box brings you all the way back to your childhood memories. The room the guests enter is like a life-size music box, a world full of nostalgia and melancholy. Gabriëls leads you through a small story about revealing yourself, showing vulnerability and taking off masks, not only on an emotional level, but also technically. From opening the wooden lid of the box, past the spinning dancer, straight into the heart of the sound mechanism.
Trompe l’oeil is, as it was in Corné Gabriëls previous collections, again the trademark for this collection and he has taken it one step further, together with some fine tailoring. Classic garments with a modern look gives the man who wears them a touch of melancholy on a cold rainy day in the summer.
With the sound of winding up a music box, the show started with the model spinning on a plateau. He was taking of layer by layer and showed what was underneath. The music was all inspired on music box melodies, from Radiohead's Kid A, First Love from Adele and Bjorks Frosti, to give the whole presentation a melancholic feel. Eight models provided by Tony Jones Model Management, went off and on to take the garments and bring it backstage. The last outfit was brought by the last model, covered with golden musical note brooches, the model dressed himself up again in one take. Then he threw golden musical notes in the air and celebrated the final.
