INTRODANS

Dutch dance company Introdans asked me to design costumes for Robert Battles’ ‘Promenade’, based on a collection of trompe l’oeil scarves I created, perfectly fitting the slapstick theme. The process of making led me to new technical insights. Together with a professional tailor, I created these dance costumes. We had to incorporate the movements of the dancers in my ideas, which was a challenge within the limitations. In the end I came up with the idea of suits that had the illusion of loose items, but actually were just shirts and pants that looked like suits and dresses like multiple layered outfits and in reality were one piece costumes. The dancers felt comfortable and free in every movement, which was the most important thing about this great design assignment.
