BOW TIE SEASON
Friday October 29, 2010
With the Holiday season coming up, Corné Gabriëls designed some unique Bow Ties. The Moustache Bow Tie is perfect for a subtle tongue in cheek look and being sharply dressed at the same time. You can choose the funny fake fur one or the woolen version which has a more classic feel. For the more casual look there are Bandana's with real Bow Ties attached on it, which are perfect to wear on a T-Shirt. The denim version is very nice to combine with a jeans and white shirt, looking like a sharply dressed James Dean. Let the Holidays begin!

Smoking Scarf
Monday October 25, 2010
Corné Gabriëls designed a new and improved jacket scarf. The original version was made of poplin and had lapels and pockets sewn in to create optical illusion. This new version is as simple and clean-cut as it can get. Made with the finest wool, this scarf has real lapels, based on a smokingsuit and is very comfortable to wear. It gives you a sharp look when it is just hanging from your shoulders. When wrapped around your neck, the lapels gives the scarf a detail that shows off you wear something special.

Droog Amsterdam presents Dutch fashion / accessory designer Corné Gabriëls’ new collection “Mirror Mirror”. The exhibition opens July 15th and goes until August 16th.
Based on augmented reality, confronting and playful, the installation will unveil recognizable fashion classical items, with a twist á la Gabriëls. Printed and optical illusions are this designer’s trademark signature yet Corné is now taking it one step further and this time the viewer plays an important part in the performance.

Jeanne moreau / 2009
For the short film 'Club Mama Gemütlich', directed by Christiaan Bastiaans, I designed the costume for the leading role, played by the icon of french cinema Jeanne Moreau. The costume is inspired by the Japanese Noh Theatre. For the design I took the traditional kimono as a starting point. The material was specially woven with words and text, in white and silver yarns. The neck has a giant bow, the back of the dress ends in two giant trains. The film is part of an exhibition in the Kröller Müller Museum.

dress / 2009
For high end warehouse 'Bijenkorf', I made a dress to be used in a tv-commercial. The dress is inspired by the stripes on a Bee, which comes from the name of the warehouse that literally means 'Beehive'. The commercial was set in a white background with black stripes that suggested a racetrack. One line comes from the floor, right into the dress. In a spiral around the body, the line comes together on the shoulder into a tied bow.
Introdans / 2008
For Robert Battle's 'Promenade' performed by Intro Dans, I designed costumes based on the 'Illusion' Collection. As part of 'Slapstripstick', this choreography is full of humour. The designs are made as if they came straight from the drawing desk. Cartoon like costumes were the result. Little pillows underneath the skirts made it all a bit more tongue in cheek, as it played an important role in the movement of the choreography.

arnhem mode biennale / 2007
For the 'Happy Fashion' themed Arnhem Mode Biennale, the Dutch Fashion Foundation asked me to represent them together with 6 other designers. At the end of the exposition there is the seven-coloured rainbow. Presenting one outfit in white, the colour where all colours come together, I made a dress consisting of handkerchiefs only. One of the lightest materials in white, delicate and pure. The folds of the handkerchiefs are ironed, so that the dress was folded as a pile until it was put on a doll. Once someone is wearing the dress, it will lose it's folds and has to be ironed again, this embodies the fragility and delicateness of the colour white even more. Happiness can only exsist if there is sadness, to combine those two emotions together was my challenge. The end result is a frivolous looking dress, made with a material that is so full of emotion.

walking around / 2006
After they showed the collection "Suite Suit" at the "Prelude" fashionshow, presented by the Dutch Fashion Foundation, models were standing in formation on white spots in the White Room of a luxurious appartment building in Amsterdam. While they could move as much as they liked, as long as they stayed on the spot. Windows were open and the wind blew the curtains into the space. A poem, by Pablo Neruda "Walking Around", about the difficulties of being a man, filled the room with words.
