The butterfly bowtie started flying at the Dutch Fashion Awards 2012. A very special moment, because I just met my father for the first time. This bowtie was especially designed for this occasion, as most of my work is autobiographical. When Angelique Westerhof, founder and director of The Dutch Fashion Foundation, asked me for a design which would be worn by hundred waiters, who served the food during the fashion shows, I was immediately convinced that this was the perfect setting for the butterfly bowtie to be released.
In a poetic performance in-between the shows of the nominees, directed by choreographer Martin Butler, all waiters/models were wearing this bowtie. It was a perfect match for such a personal design, which came to life at that special evening in a church in The Hague.
